have happened already...the internal combustion engine was not invented yesterday...Thermal efficiency goes up with higher compression ratio (diesels are more efficient) but not significantly from 8.5:1 to 11:1 ....Did you think engineers didn't want this?The prime example of the closest thing to your idea is the 3Liter N54 TwinTurbo engine in the BMW...it runs a 10.5:1 compression...with small turbos, but the key thing it has that we do not is Direct Fuel Injection(better control of combustion,) more precise valve timing and sensors. Your idea isn't that far fetched, but the VG simply doesn't have the equipment to have it be reliable, and mainly there are much better alternatives.
